The newlynewt.jpg formed We campaign, brainchild of the Alliance for Climate Protection founded by former Vice President Al Gore and colleagues, has begun a media effort that rests on the belief that united “we” will succeed in fighting climate change.

The group’s first videos in its “Unlikely Alliances” series, airing on network and cable television now, show that global warming activists come from all political and philosophical backgrounds. They can even be polar opposites (no pun intended), like for instance, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia) or the Revs. Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson.

The fiery New York pastor known for his civil rights actions and the fervent evangelical preacher popular on the conservative end of the dial are shown sitting on a couch on a beach in We’s first-released public service announcement. They declare that while they don’t always agree theologically, the faith community agrees on one thing, the need to care for the planet.

The ad featuring Pelosi and Gingrich, two respected and politically disparate politicians, began airing last week. Looking relaxed and happy to be together, they declare a common concern about the environment and Gingrich notes that “our country must take action to address climate
change.” Adds Pelosi, “We need cleaner forms of energy, and we need them fast.”

“If enough of us demand action from our leaders,” Gingrich says, “we can spark the innovation we need.”

If you’re not catching them on cable, both the Pelosi/Gingrich ad and the Sharpton/Robertson promo can be found on UTube.

“By bringing together top Republicans and Democrats, we are demonstrating both to the American public and to lawmakers that we can and must overcome partisan
differences to solve the climate crisis. We have the technological solutions in hand, but right now we lack the
political will,” said Alliance for Climate Protection CEO Cathy Zoi in a statement. “Addressing the urgent challenge of climate change requires more of the spirit shown by Speakers
Pelosi and Gingrich.”
