Calling all New York City edible gardeners and home chefs, The New York Botanical Garden’s Edible Garden exhibit will be finishing up the growing season with a burst of appearances by chefs, including hospitality maven Martha Stewart.

Events will include cooking demonstrations that highlight the value of kitchen gardens and celebrity appearances through mid-October. (Martha takes the stage Sept. 21 at a cocktail party event near her namesake Culinary Herb Garden). Events include

  • Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 25-26 with Fiesta de Flores y Comida, a festival of flowers and food.
  • A Harvest Celebration and festival of pumpkins and cooking with kids Oct. 9-11. Appearances at the Conservatory Kitchen will feature Lidia Bastianich, television chef and cookbook author and restaurateur; Bill Telepan, owner of eponymous restaurant and an advocate for school lunch reform; and Michel Nischan of the Dressing Room.
  • The final weekend, Oct. 16-17, will celebrate the harvest and offer ideas for preserving foods for winter. Cooking demonstrations will feature celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Michael Psilakis, Marc Forgione, and Todd English.

The Edible Garden is composed of four kitchen gardens and proceeds of events will benefit the NY Botanical Gardens children’s gardening program.
