Trees, oaks in Austin, verticalTreeFolks will be giving away 1,300 tree saplings to Austin Energy residential customers on March 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Highland Mall, Airport Blvd., Austin.

Those wanting one or two of the 5-gallon trees must show their utility bill or ID with address to pick up one of the trees, which include these types: Chinquapin Oak, Mexican White Oak, Mexican Sycamore, Cedar Elm, Texas Redbud, Texas Persimmon, Anacacho Orchid and Flameleaf Sumac. This will be a first-come, first-served event with a maximum of two trees per event.

Since 1989, TreeFolks has planted 250,000 trees in the Austin area, at schools, parks, in medians, greenbelts and rights of way to help cool the air, provide shade, clean water and air and a healthy community.
