  • The 6.5 mile round trip River Place Trail is by far one of the best hiking trails in Austin.   It is also one of the hardest, due to some of the steepest trail segments in all of Austin.

    Trail Description

The River Place trail trail surface is hard pack and rock. It’s uneven and often hugs the side of steep slopes above Panther Hollow creek. The trail builders used a lot of logs to buttress the downhill side of the trail for stabilization. It obviously required a lot of work to put this trail into place.

We will be hiking the trail segments on the Upper Panther and Canyon Trails. Expect rough terrain and big elevation changes as we descend into and ascend out of creek beds and ravines.

Expect the complete the hike in[masked] hours.  Bring plenty of water!

    Directions

South of the FM 2222/FM 620 intersection, take River Place Boulevard and continue for 2.8 miles. Turn right onto Big View Drive and look for the Woodland Park parking area on your left. Walk across the street to the pond and trail kiosk.
