Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health say they have found evidence that people driving behind the trucks transporting broiler chickens may be exposured to antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The study by the Hopkins researchers found increased levels of pathogenic bacteria, including drug-resistant, on surfaces and in the air inside cars traveling behind trucks that carry broiler chickens from farms to slaughterhouses. The findings were published in the first issue of the Journal of Infection and Public Health.
