You can take the first step by registering online with 41pounds.org and paying a $41 fee that will last five years. This fee also covers all members of your household.
In addition to catalogs and credit cards, 41pounds.org also will reduce: Sweepstakes entries; insurance promotions and any magazine subscriptions you specify
Over 100 million trees are destroyed each year to produce junk mail, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Junk mail has other adverse effects on the environment that include:
- Using 28 billion gallons of water to produce and recycle junk mail each year
- Producing more greenhouse gas emissions than 2.8 million vehicles
- Having 44 percent of unopened junk mail pile at landfills.
