Empire State Building to join nation’s top green energy buyers

New York City’s hallmark Empire State Building, which is undergoing a major green remodeling, will now become the city’s biggest commercial buyer of renewable energy. The skyscraper’s owners have signed a two-year contract with Green Mountain Energy, which will supply the facility with 100 percent green power by buying Renewable Energy Certificates.

Super Bowl XLIV does green

This weekend, while fans get ready for the Saints face off against the Colts at Sun Life Stadium for Super Bowl XLIV, the NFL will be running some of its own green plays.

All leftover food from Super Bowl events will be donated to local agencies under the leadership of Daily Bread Food Bank. Over 65,000 pounds of leftover prepared food was donated after last year’s Super Bowl.SuperBowlXLIV

New Hampshire’s Mountain View Grand Resort buys only green power

Who would want to ruin this view? Not New Hampshire’s Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa. The resort has moved away from sky-polluting fossil fuels to using all green, renewable energy.

Not only did Mountain View Grand put up its own 121-foot wind turbine last year, it now buys all renewable energy from Constellation Energy, in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The RECs represent power that’s been produced by green sources, in this case, wind power.

Deutsche Bank, Intel, Kohl’s and Mohawk honored for green power use

Four major corporations were named “Green Power Partners of the Year” this past week by the US EPA:

Deutsche Bank AG — In 2009, the company made an annual purchase of 160 million kilowatt-hours of wind-derived renewable energy certificates (RECs), which represents 100 percent of the electricity needs for its U.S. operations. Worldwide, Deutsche Bank bought 515 million-kilowatt hours of green power.
