Meryl lit up the night in her gold couture gown by Lanvin as she accepted her third Oscar for The Iron Lady at the 84th Oscars last night.The queen of Hollywood appeared far from iron-like is a glowing gold gown that also happened to be green. The dress, which flowed and draped in several impossible directions, was created with sustainable fabric.

New York’s FIT showcases designers going green

The Museum at FIT in New York is presenting Eco-Fashion: Going Green, an exhibition exploring fashion’s relationship with the environment. Generally, “eco-fashion” refers to the work of designers who use, produce, and/or promote sustainable, ethical, and environmentally-conscious products.

The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology continues Eco-Fashion: Going Green, an exhibition exploring fashion’s relationship with the environment, through Nov. 13. Organized by Jennifer Farley and Colleen Hill, along with Tiffany Webber, the exhibition is on view in the Fashion and Textile History Gallery at The Museum at FIT.
Hours: Tuesday-Friday–noon-8 pm; Saturday–10 am-5 pm Closed Sunday, Monday, and legal holidays. Admission is free.

Chicago’s Greenheart Shop promotes eco-shopping with heart

Greenheart Shop models show off the stores clothing

Colorful messenger bags and totes created from re-purposed construction netting, recycled rice bags and Cambodian silk. Screen-printed cotton outfits designed by the Chicago- and Cambodia-based Malia Designs. Divine chocolate made from cocoa beans sustainably grown in Ghana. These are just some of the finds at Greenheart Shop , a thriving Fair Trade business in Chicago’s trendy Wicker Park neighborhood. Shoppers recently were treated to a fashion show complete with runway models decked in green wear from head-to-toe.
