Green up back-to-school supplies with our Earth-friendly shopping list

July 23rd, 2010

Bento-box style lunches are hot, and we’ve found some made of safe materials. Oots makes a colorful, practical lunch box (above). An elastic strap holds a reusable bottle on the lid, and there is one large and four small containers. The boxes are made from BPA-free and phthalate-free polypropylene, $45.50. The Bento Lunch Set is made in the U.S., using no plasticizers, BPA or phthalates. It’s $25.  Another slick lunch bag is the Neogreene Sifaka, $27.95 (below). It’s like neoprene, without any toxic materials, made from water-based material that cuts the use of petroleum and energy.
