As Congress and the White House negotiate the details of the tax breaks for the middle class, and the tax breaks for the wealthy, and the payroll tax break, the clean energy lobby appears caught at the door of the party.

Industry leaders are sending up flares to constituents and the media, warning that pulling the plug on clean energy incentives would hurt job growth and the nation’s ability to compete globally in the fast-growing clean energy sector.

Several tax incentives that the wind and solar industries depend upon to spur investment are set to expire, as well as certain rebates for home energy efficiency improvements.

Leaders of the wind, solar, geothermal, hydropower, biomass, ethanol and energy efficiency industries have banded together to call for an American energy bill to drive the nation toward a clean energy future. The coalition of renewable energy groups wants Congress to move quickly to pass an energy bill, with or without carbon pricing, to help create and secure new jobs, stabilize the U.S. economy and develop the domestic industries that will replace fossil fuels.

The American Wind Energy Association released its annual rankings of industry leaders today, among manufacturers, producers and states with the greatest wind production capacity.

First the states: Texas leads the nation with the ability to produce 7,118 Megawatts of power, or enough to keep 1.75 million homes in electricity.

It is followed by: Iowa (2,791 Megawatts of wind capacity); California (2,517 Megawatts); Minnesota (1,754 Megawatts); Washington (1,447 Megawatts) and Oregon and Colorado (each with just over 1,000 Megawatts).
