Lakeway Canyonlands Trail
Categories No Categories
Mount Lakeway loop trail has several climbs which are among the steepest and most prolonged in Central Texas. There is now a 11 mile loop trail that traverses Mount Lakeway, as well as several sub peaks.
It has more elevation change than River Place and the mileage is longer, so be ready for quad burning conditioning” hike. There are several places we can stop to rest but there are no restroom facilities, and after going down other side of Mt. Lakeway, its pretty solitary. It will take about 3.5 hours to complete.
The back part is kind of exposed so a hat or shades are recommended.
This trail is considered difficult due to the 11 mile length, with steep and rocky sections, so a walking stick and sturdy shoes should be considered.
The hike will be co-led by Fernando, who has extensive trail running experience on the Lakeway trails.
Directions : Enter Lakeway’s main entrance off RR 620, which is Lakeway Blvd. Stay on Lakeway Blvd. and go through the only traffic light in Lakeway, which is the intersection of Lohmans Crossing. Stay on Lakeway Blvd. about a mile or so beyond Lohmans Crossing until Hills Drive, where you take a left. There are signs at Hills Drive for The World of Tennis and Serene Hills. Take your first right off Hills Drive onto Trophy Drive. The Canyonlands trail-head kiosk is on your left just after passing under the power lines. Continue to Highlands Blvd, if you wish, and take a right and another right to enter the Swim Center parking lot on the other side of the vacant lot across from the trail-head kiosk.
