The Man Who Planted Trees

This film, by Canadian animator Frédéric Back, is a paean to the beauty of the natural world. Based on a story by Jean Giono, it won an Academy Award in 1988 for Best Animated Short Film. Its unique visual style – resembling drawings come to life on a page – is still praised by filmmakers.
