Celestial Seasonings teas will help “Protect an Acre”

If you didn’t realize that January is National Hot Tea Month, tea maker Celestial Seasonings gives you a new reason to take notice: The company has announced plans to help preserve the Earth’s tropical forests by inviting one and all to participate in a new Facebook quiz called PossibiliTEAS.

Celestial will donate one dollar for each participant, up to a maximum of $50,000, to Conservation International ’s “Protect an Acre” program, which aims to help slow climate change and preserve tropical forests throughout the world. According to the organization, just $15 helps protect an acre of forest.

The changing Face(book) of the times…

Even though we generally subscribe to the Marxist theory of groups — that is, Groucho Marx’s maxim that “I wouldn’t belong to any club that would have me as a member”, we started a Facebook page.

You can see it at Green Right Now on Facebook. Or if you prefer, GreenRightNow.

While over there constructing the new site, we noticed Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu in the neighborhood. We’re sure this is a comfortable fit for the former Stanford professor, a virtual lectern from which to tutor the masses on energy efficiency and whip up support for alternative power sources.

EPA wants you to take action and tell somebody

During Earth Month, the EPA is promoting “Pick 5 for the Environment,” which encourages the public to commit to taking at least five actions to protect the environment. After picking your five personal actions, you can use social media sites Facebook, Flickr and YouTube to share tips and stories.
