ust as the EPA keeps tabs on companies that use green energy for buildings and stamps out Energy Star labels for efficient appliances, the Department of Energy has begun recognizing companies that are greening their vehicle fleets.

GE announced in 2010 that it will buy 12,000 Volts, and later, other electric cars.

FedEx announced Tuesday that it will put the first all-electric FedEx parcel delivery trucks to be used in the United States on the road in the Los Angeles area starting in June.

The four new trucks will join a fleet of 1,800 FedEx alternative energy vehicles, hybrids and all-electrics, already operating around the world.

Navistar International Corporation and Modec Limited of the UK announced that they will begin a joint-venture in the production of a line of all-electric commercial truck under the name Navistar-Modec EV Alliance, LLC. The move makes good on a $39.2 million federal grant in stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop and build an all-electric truck.
