The cost for what we were looking for – a wall-mounted 42-inch screen – varied from $1,200 to just under $3,500. We hoped to spend under $2,000. So what about power consumption? The LCDs, explained our Best Buy consultant, use almost half the energy as plasmas. Plasmas utilize a lot of power to light each pixel that makes up their images.
According to Tom’s Hardware Guide, a 42″ plasma display will consume 250W, while an LCD display with the same diagonal measurement will consume only 150W.
The result? We purchased a 42-inch wall-mounted LCD by Sharp. Now we draw straws on whether we’re watching sports or a movie. It’s a pleasure to watch either – the resolution is terrific for both.
