There are a lot of voluntary standards, but many manufacturers don’t follow this. They aren’t mandatory, and I think people think they are. And now we have a global marketplace where people have less understanding of the supply chain, and these global companies are harder to keep track of. …”

But as Kara says , it’s not even about that.
“I fail to see why there aren’t better regulations. On the one hand I think we are so over tested, that as a generation we’re all paranoid. Your kids can’t just hop on skateboard without wearing a helmet or kneepads. I mean, our generation grew up being human projectiles in the backseats of our parents’ station wagons… but you also can’t live your life in fear.”
Her plan to get around the fear of toxic toys: “Become more active, join a group, write your congressman. We’ve been asked to just believe people (corporations) will do the right thing, and they won’t. If we want this to change, we have blow the trumpet, make it be known.”
Sounds like she won’t be fooled again.
