When it comes to intruding on our stressed environment, less is more. But sometimes more information is good. Here’s a list of resources:
- The Household Products Database is an authoritative source where you can check out the health effects and ratings for toxins or any specific ingredient in cleaners, pesticides or virtually any product in use around the house. It is maintained by the National Institutes of Health and includes Material Safety Data Sheets on many chemicals.
- Good books with significant sections on green cleaning include the amusingly written, earthy, sometimes oddball and comprehensive Green Housekeeping by Ellen Sandbeck, and the informative, chockful-of-tips guide to de-toxifying the home by green maven Annie B. Bond, Home Enlightenment: Practical, Earth-Friendly Advice for Creating a Nurturing, Healthy, and Toxin-Free Home and Lifestyle .
- U.S. Peroxide’s overview on hydrogen peroxide.
- EPA’s Greening Your Purchase of Cleaning Products website is aimed at government contractors, but is informative for anyone wanting to learn about greener cleaning.
