It saves the energy needed to heat water. Most laundry soaps now offer cold-water alternatives, especially “green” brands such as Seventh Generation, which is running a campaign called Get Out Of Hot Water. The campaign is aimed at getting consumers to save 90 percent of the energy used to wash clothes by switching to cold water.
