Isaac Mizrahi, the show’s biggest star — visible everywhere from catwalk collections to a Target clothes line and reality-TV show on Bravo! — worked with perhaps the most colorful material: dried fish skin. Using waste from the salmon industry that has been cured into something resembling leather (the designer swears it doesn’t smell), he strung hundreds of tiny discs into a dress resembling fish scales.
