The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Dickinson College, located in Carlisle, Pa., was established last year to integrate environmental education across the curriculum. As a member of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, Dickinson has pledged to be carbon neutral by 2020.
However, Dickinson College has been environmentally engaging students and the community since the establishment of the Dickinson College Farm in 1999. With an interest in sustainable agriculture and organic gardening, two environmental studies students initiated the garden 10 years ago. The farm has since grown into a student, faculty, and community form of sustainable education.




Like many environmental terms — green, eco, sustainability, organic – “companies have co-opted and glommed onto these words,” she told an audience in Fort Worth this week. Luckily, she says the public is learning to be more informed.
