Report says electricity providers feeling stress of climate change

Nearly all the world’s electric utilities now believe that climate change is threatening power outages, higher costs and changes in usage as demand grows to power the world’s expanding cities, according to a new report from Acclimatise.

Over ninety percent of the global electric utilities that report climate change activity to the Carbon Disclosure Project say they are at risk from changes in climate and water availability, which are already adding stress to the sector. However, fewer than a third say they are undertaking any financial or quantified evaluation to the impact of climate change on their business.

Groom Energy plans enterprise carbon accounting seminar in Boston

Groom Energy, a provider of renewable and energy efficiency solutions, will hold an Enterprise Carbon Accounting seminar that will address the challenges in defining, accounting and reporting an organization’s Greenhouse Gas emissions. The day-long seminar in Boston on Feb. 25 will feature presenters from Ceres, Climate Disclosure Project, Genzyme, Millipore, Sun Microsystems, the World Resource Institute and others.

The seminar will feature panel discussions and case studies from leading environmental authorities and large companies that are currently defining or managing the GHG emission accounting process.

U.S. Cities Will Disclose Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Some of the largest cities in the U.S., including New York, Las Vegas and New Orleans, have agreed to measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions to better understand the potential risks and opportunities associated with climate change.

Thirty cities in all will participate in the pilot program coordinated by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the International Council on Local Environment Initiative (ICLEI) Local Government for Sustainability.
