Green Right Now
The University of California at San Diego is, in no way, new to the green movement. Each year they find new ways to become more eco-friendly. They give all incoming freshmen water bottles that can be filled at free filtered “hydration stations” around campus. Reusable recycling bags are given to every room in their transfer housing. University restaurants and markets use fair trade and locally grown organic foods, as well as cage-free eggs. They’ve also eliminated take-away plastics and Styrofoam. That’s a pretty impressive green resume.
But perhaps the most interesting thing though this year is their development of “EcoNauts”. When school starts later this month, there will be a few new environmental employees.

h schoolers looking for an environmentally conscientious college should have no shortage of guidance this year. The Sierra Club has joined the Princeton Review in assessing the green creds of U.S. universities.
Actually, the venerable environmental group was first out with the idea, launching a “Cool Schools” rundown in 2007. Their second annual review, in the group’s Sept./Oct.Sierra magazine, settles on list of the top ten campuses — Ten That Get It — that includes colleges of all sizes from the East to the West.
