The future is green, judging by products endorsed by some 2008 college grads.

Currently online on the green component of LoyalTV.com are videos submitted by graduating seniors who talk about their favorite green products ranging from Burt’s Bees lip gloss and lotions to Annie’s Macaroni and Cheese. The website put the word out they were looking for videos on favorite green products and then selected the ones that generated the most interest.

In her video, Heather says she preaches the virtues of Burt’s Bees products to all her friends and has them hooked. She has used the chap stick, lotions and cuticle cream for nine years and likes the fact that they are all natural and made without chemicals that could hurt her body.

Daniella, a graduate of Wesleyan University “loves Clorox’ new line of green products, Green Works.” She uses the Natural Cleaner to wash her tub, toilets, bathroom and kitchen floors. “I love it because it cleans nicely and is made from plant and mineral-based ingredients and other biodegradables.”

Samantha, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, is a fan of the Rogan Gregory Collection at Target. She likes the designer’s organic cotton clothes which she says are also fashionable. Even the label is made from post-consumer waste paper, she says. “So the clothes are cute and I can save the environment as well.”

Rosa, also from FIT, says she’s Italian and “pasta’s my thing.” She likes Annie’s Macaroni and Cheese because it’s made with 100 percent all natural cheese. “I can rest assured that there are no harsh chemicals or pesticides that will hurt me or the environment.”

One caveat: the videos are simply the opinions of the product users and not based on scientific research. The good news here is that many graduating seniors apparently share a concern about all things green and are making an effort to seek out products whose packaging makes those claims. Of course, further research doesn’t hurt.

LoyalTV.com, co-founded by Courtney Jones and Bobby Brahms, recently launched the green portion of their website. The video commentaries are a “You Tube” approach, says Jones, whose background is in search websites such as Findwhat.com, which he also started. “Personal broadcasting is the future,” he says.

  1. Good news to hear students are caring about the environment! I was introduced to Burt’s Bees products by my sister-in-law Lynn who gave me some items for a gift once. I vouch for them!
