From Green Right Now Reports

With Earth Hour just days away, the final details are falling into place for the global event that focuses attention on the call for action on climate change. The Earth Hour organization says the Acropolis in Athens and the Sphinx and Great Pyramids of Giza are the latest world landmarks that will join in going dark.

Here are some of the event highlights:

  • More than 2,400 cities in 82 countries have officially signed on to turn off their lights on Saturday, March 28th at 8:30p.m. local time, up from 400 cities in 35 countries last year.
  • The U.S. will have 195 cities participating — nearly double the number from 2008.
  • A new iPhone application — “Earth Hour Trainer” — is available.
  • Other landmarks that will go dark include Thomas Alva Edison’s Laboratory, Broadway theater marquees, New York’s Rockefeller Center,  Chrysler Building, United Nations headquarters, Empire State Building;  the Las Vegas Strip; Santa Monica Pier and Ferris Wheel; Hollywood’s Capitol Records Building; Chicago’s Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower); San francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge; the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and many more buildings and landmarks around the world.
