(Springfield, MO) — An outdoor group, about to celebrate a milestone, goes back it its roots.
Volunteers with Ozark Greenways were getting their hands dirty Saturday morning, planting trees along Chestnut Expressway.
The trail building organization's goal is to end up with a staggered tree canopy. This will make sure there will always be trees along Chestnut.
The project pays homage to Greenways' original name, Project Parkway.
Volunteers with that group planted trees along Chestnut nearly 20 years ago.
"These few blocks here, we gathered some funds and planted trees and this is where it all started. We wanted to keep it moving," saidCarolyn Gerdes,past president ofOzark Greenway's.
