From Green Right Now Reports

Save those candy bags and wrappers, they’re recyclable.

Terracycle has partnered with M&M’s candies to help stem the flow of candy wrapper trash into landfills.

Candy bags are converted to recycled bags and coolers, and also turned into plastic goods like picnic benches.

Simply save your candy bags and wrappers — from any candy manufacturer, not just M&Ms.  In fact, save those juice bags and cookie packages, because Terracycle also will accept them.

After you’ve accumulated a pile of candy/cookie/snack packaging, say enough to fill a large envelope or boxed mailer, send it to Terracycle.

Terracycle also takes back snack packaging, but separately from its "Candy Brigade" promotion.

The recycling company will even pay for your postage and you’ll be awarded points. (Don’t worry, you won’t get rich off these points, but teachers might want to take note, you can accumulate and donate them, creating a potentially rewarding classroom project around recycling.)

Find out more at the TerraCycle website.

Here are their three easy steps.

  1. Collect enough approved candy wrappers to fill up a box or bag (approved waste is listed below). Remember, the waste does not need to be cleaned or stacked, and always try to reuse a shipping box or bag!
  2. Download a pre-paid shipping label from terracycle.com. To acquire a pre-paid label, simply access your TerraCycle account online, and click “SHIP US YOUR WASTE”. You can print them out yourself or request that TerraCycle send the label.
  3. Ship the box to TerraCycle by affixing the pre-paid postage label and dropping it off at a UPS location.

Terracycle offers teaching help too, like the Candy Wrapper Brigade Poster and Candy Wrapper Brigade Thermometer Poster to help promote and track of your collections.

Candy Wrapper Brigade accepted waste includes: individual candy wrappers, large candy bags, and multi-pack candy bags.
