Twenty great, green decorative items with stories to tell

May 29th, 2009

3. Shiny Monkey Apples: These African fruits (above, left) have a thick shell and a pulpy interior, and are used as medicines by villagers. Yours are dried and hand-decorated in vibrant colors by disadvantaged African villagers. They come in three other colors from 3R Living, and cost $8.95

4. Stone “cairns”: These rounded, water-smoothed stones are like the “cairns” — smooth stones piled atop stones that are used as markers on mountains and paths — used by ancient cultures. These (above, right) are held together for use on a windowsill, desktop or table. Cairns evoke safety, hope and friendship, and a set of 3 is $55 from Viva Terra.
