One of the world’s most delightful science museums, San Francisco’s Exploratorium, just went outside for some fresh air: The brand new Outdoor Exploratorium sits in a geographically privileged spot at seaside Fort Mason; its scattered exhibits focus on coastal ecosystem topics, letting visitors, for instance, taste simulations of various kinds of sea water or see proof of just how complicated the wind’s patterns of movement are. (Afterward, you can soak up the air conditioning while exploring optics in the museum’s temporary show Reflections.)
