Twenty great, green decorative items with stories to tell

15: An exotic patterned area rug: This leopard patterned one –  there are four styles — is handmade of suede with built-in pockets for hanging if you’d rather not toss it onto the floor. The rug (above, left) is made by artisans working with established fair trade producers in Africa. it’s 60″ by 68″ and is $175 from Blue Dango.

16: Scented soy candles: There are plenty of natural candles on the market, and these, by Naked, are great examples (above, right). They use only pure ingredients, with no harmful chemicals, added colors or paraffin. There are multiple scents, and each candle is $21 from Our Green House.

17. A handmade spice block: Spice up your table with this handmade curved piece (above) made of reclaimed mahogany (using scraps from a custom-window factory) by Domestic Aesthetic in Brooklyn. It’s 9″ by 3″, and costs $56 from Branch.
