Arnold Schwarzenegger is the recipient of the National Park Trust’s 2009 Bruce F. Vento Award recognizing
a leader in land conservation.

The NPT chose Schwarzenegger for his leadership in protecting public lands in California and his commitment to children’s health and helping them stay fit and connected to the outdoors, in part through the California Children’s Bill of Rights.

The conservation group also cited specifically the governor’s creation of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and his protection of coastal areas, forests and stream habitats, and praised his efforts to promote public-private partnerships and bi-partisan effforts to achieve environmental goals.

Past recipients include Senator Harry Reid (NV), Congressman George Miller (CA) and Senator John McCain (AZ). The governor will be recognized at a D.C. ceremony later this spring.
