New at Sears in time for Father’s Day: A green dress suit made of recycled soda bottles.
That’s right. Though the heartland’s venerable apparel merchant doesn’t tout environmentalism as one of its virtues in its online catalog listing, this suit incorporates material from Bagir, whose EcoGir line is made from post-consumer PET bottles.
Sold at Sears under the Covington brand, the $250 suit is a blend of Bagir’s recycled plastic (referred to in the Sears catalog simply as “Poly”), spandex and wool. Designed to be more conservative than some products Bagir sells through other department stores (the company has attracted attention for a suit designed for iPods and has made deals with high-end designers like Nicole Miller) it is designed by tech-lovers who, unlike the polyester peddlers of yesteryear, make breathability
a high priority. What’s more, self-described “innovative tailoring provider” Bagir has launched an effort to tally the carbon footprint of each product on labels or tags — though it’s not clear if those tags will be attached to the new line coming to Sears.
