Why we love it: Because their “World Adventures” actually live up to their title. Broadreach offers Multi-Sport World Adventures, including an opportunity to travel through the rainforests of Honduras to study the region’s ecology, the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture and the nuances of Mayan culture.
Or you could opt to dive in and take part in a Scuba Intensive World Adventure like the Marine Biology adventure. Campers travel to San Salvador, Bahamas, where they collect data for the REEF Fish Survey project and work with professional marine biologists at the Gerace Research Center.
“Environmentalism has always been a fundamental objective for the company. We’re an outdoor adventure industry, so we’re stakeholders in the environment,” says Broadreach’s Dora Teglasy. “It’s a priority for us to teach all students to be environmental stewards.”
Academic Treks, Broadreach’s academic adventure and community service division also offers hands-on marine biology, language immersion and community service expeditions for high school and college students. Programs include an opportunity to study primate behavior and conservation in Costa Rica and Panama, African wildlife conservation in South Africa, tropical biodiversity and ecology in the Galapagos and Amazon Basin and climate change in Iceland. These programs even qualify for college credit.
