It's called e-waste and it's becoming an increasing problem here in Central Texas and all across the country.
All types of electronics and their cords are being tossed into our landfills and not being recycled properly. Two years ago Miller Riemenschneider, who lives in Bastrop, saw a need to start up a recycling company and educate the public on the dangers of e-waste to the environment.
Throwing electronics in the trash is extremely bad for the environment because lead and mercury can leak out of these products and seep into the ground and eventually our water supply. The company does charge per pound for the larger items like televisions, but the smaller items are free like your cell phone and batteries. You can send them the items or they will actually come and pick it up from your house. They also work with businesses to recycle their e-waste.
If the electronics or cords can be repurposed then the company may give it to a charitable organization to be reused. The company's overall goal is to educate the public on electronic waste and provide and easy and efficient way to recycle electronics while protecting our beautiful environment here in Central Texas.
