Green Governors Fight Climate Change From Coast To Coast

At their annual meeting, the NGA said governors should lead by example, noting that the following types of actions were good examples of how governors could take the green initiative:

  • Procure energy efficient appliances and equipment for public functions.
  • Establish energy efficient performance standards for new and existing buildings
  • Purchase clean energy for public facilities or increase the use of onsite generation from renewable energy systems
  • Implement green fleets programs by setting alternative fuel standards for state government vehicles
  • Setting overall GHG emissions reduction targets for state operations
