If you want to play a role in saving the Boreal Forest you can:
- Use the Natural Resource Defense Council’s shopping card to find the tissue paper, paper towels and toilet paper brands that are made with recycled wood or paper fibers. The card will remind you why you’re buying recycled, with factoids like this one: If every household in the United States replaced just one box of virgin fiber facial tissues (175 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 163,000 trees.
- Send a message to Kimberly-Clark, the world’s largest manufacturer of disposable paper goods, through the NRDC or Greenpeace.
Drop a note to store managers asking them to stock recycled goods. The Greenpeace site has a prototype. (You didn’t’ think Greenpeace wanted you to keep quiet did you?)- Use fewer disposable paper products. Cut down on the number of paper towels you use. Use a wash cloth or clean-up towel instead. Use cloth napkins or buy a hankie from Greenpeace.
