Even as it launches its first hybrid car, Mercedes-Benz says there is “no single technology that will provide the ideal solution for sustainable mobility in the future.” The company says it will focus on vehicle optimization with the latest internal combustion engine technology, including downsizing, high-pressure charging, direct injection and the environmentally friendly diesel technology BlueTEC – “as well as specific vehicle improvements in the areas of aerodynamics, lightweight construction and energy management.” Mercedes-Benz says it also will explore fuel-cell and battery-powered vehicles.
