Definition: Landfill gas-to-energy plant

Landfill gas is a natural byproduct of decomposing wastes buried in landfills. The primary gases are approximately equal parts of carbon dioxide and methane. Gas recovery systems are used to draw the gas from the landfill, the the recovered gas is used as fuel to drive power plant engines to generate electricity.
